London Plane Trees:

This stand of London Plane trees is located at the north east end of the Mall, adjacent to the dark Elms. What a contrast here with all the light branches!

 

Central Park Elms:

One of my favorite spaces....these Elms frame the Mall in Central Park. The tops have become twisted with age and the dark trunks form a tunnel. This picture was taken new years day and the park was very crowded, but the angle of the shot makes it look empty as everyone stays on the main paths; there is a respect that I have seen in the park for the areas of these rare mature elms....or does everyone just not want to get their feet wet?
